CVE-2023-33962 affects JStachio, a type-safe Java Mustache templating engine. In versions prior to 1.0.1, the HTML escaping logic does not escape single quote characters ('). When untrusted input is rendered into HTML contexts that rely on single-quoted attributes or otherwise require proper escaping of apostrophes, an attacker can inject malicious markup or script content. This results in a cross-site scripting condition in applications using the vulnerable template engine, enabling arbitrary JavaScript execution in the browser of users who view affected pages.
