CVE-2023-35985 is an arbitrary file creation vulnerability in the JavaScript exportDataObject API of Foxit Reader 12.1.3.15356. The flaw is caused by insufficient validation of a dangerous file extension, allowing a specially crafted malicious document to create files at attacker-controlled locations on the target system. This file creation primitive can be leveraged to achieve arbitrary code execution under the context of the affected application. Exploitation requires the target to open a malicious file, and may also be triggered through a specially crafted malicious website when the relevant browser plugin extension is enabled.

This repository is a proof-of-concept exploit for CVE-2023-35985, targeting Windows systems with a vulnerable PDF reader (such as Adobe Acrobat). It contains two crafted PDF files ('c.pdf' and 'thisworks.pdf'), each embedding JavaScript that leverages the 'exportDataObject' method to drop an HTA file ('exploit.hta') into the Windows Startup folder. The embedded HTA file contains JavaScript that uses ActiveXObject to execute 'cmd.exe /c calc.exe', demonstrating arbitrary command execution. The exploit demonstrates the ability to achieve code execution on the target system by enticing a user to open the malicious PDF. The README credits the original discoverer and provides minimal context. No network endpoints are present; the attack is local and relies on file system access and Windows scripting capabilities.
