CVE-2023-36479 is an improper command-quoting vulnerability in Eclipse Jetty's org.eclipse.jetty.servlets.CGI Servlet. When processing a request for a CGI binary whose user-controlled name contains a space, the servlet wraps the command in quotation marks before executing it through Runtime.exec. A binary name containing a quotation mark followed by a space can break the intended quoting, causing the resulting command line to be parsed as multiple tokens and potentially executing a command or binary other than the intended target.
