Apache NiFi versions 0.0.2 through 1.22.0 include Processors and Controller Services that support HTTP URL references for retrieving drivers. An authenticated and authorized user with the ability to configure these components can specify a remote HTTP location for a driver, resulting in NiFi loading attacker-controlled code and enabling custom code execution. The issue stems from insufficient restriction on who could configure components that reference remote resources. Apache NiFi 1.23.0 addresses this by introducing a new required permission for referencing remote resources and by restricting configuration of Processors and Controller Services annotated with the new Reference Remote Resources restriction to privileged users.
