CVE-2023-4155 is a time-of-check/time-of-use double-fetch race in Linux KVM handling of VMGEXIT events for AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualization guests using SEV-ES or SEV-SNP. A malicious multi-vCPU guest can race VMGEXIT handling to recursively invoke the handler. Repeated recursive invocation exhausts kernel stack space and causes a stack overflow. Systems built without virtual-mapped kernel stacks and their guard pages have a potentially more severe guest-to-host escape exposure.
