CVE-2023-5090 is an improper access-control flaw in the Linux kernel KVM implementation for AMD Secure Virtual Machine (SVM) virtualization. The flaw is in svm_set_x2apic_msr_interception(), where insufficient validation of x2APIC MSR interception state can occur when a guest resets its APIC. This can allow a guest to directly access host x2APIC model-specific registers that should remain intercepted and inaccessible to the guest.
