CVE-2023-52439 is a race-induced use-after-free in the Linux kernel Userspace I/O (UIO) subsystem. Concurrent execution of uio_unregister_device() and uio_open() can permit uio_open() to locate a UIO device structure while device unregistration drops the final device reference and frees that structure. The open path can subsequently obtain or use a reference to freed memory. When the corresponding release path later drops that reference, it can also cause a double free. The fix performs lookup and reference-count acquisition atomically while holding minor_lock.
