CVE-2023-52476 is a flaw in the Linux kernel x86 perf Last Branch Record (LBR) sampling implementation. When a legacy vsyscall executes while LBR sampling is active and is interrupted by a perf non-maskable-interrupt sample, the LBR branch-type decoding path can attempt to fetch instruction data from the vsyscall region. The resulting unhandled page fault produces an oops and can panic the kernel. The correction filters vsyscall-region addresses during branch-type determination and classifies them as having no branch type.
