CVE-2023-52477 is a NULL-pointer dereference in the Linux kernel USB hub subsystem. USB hub code accesses fields of a USB device's Binary Object Store (BOS) descriptor structure without consistently verifying that the structure was allocated and initialized. If BOS descriptor retrieval fails, the structure remains NULL; subsequent hub operations, including port-reset processing and checks or setup associated with Link Power Management, SuperSpeed capabilities, and U1/U2 states, can dereference it. The fix introduces fallback behavior when the BOS descriptor is unavailable and skips functionality that depends on BOS data.
