CVE-2023-52530 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel mac80211 IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi stack. When ieee80211_gtk_rekey_add() calls ieee80211_key_link(), an identical-key reinstallation rejected by KRACK protection can cause ieee80211_key_link() to return success without linking the key. ieee80211_gtk_rekey_add() may nevertheless return a pointer into that key, leaving the caller with a potentially freed object. The upstream fix returns an error from the affected helper path and converts it to success only at the cfg80211 boundary, preserving an error for inappropriate direct callers.
