CVE-2023-52574 is a NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel team networking driver. When a VLAN device is enslaved to a team device and the team device transitions from a non-Ethernet type to Ethernet, the driver can incorrectly assign VLAN header operations to the team device. Subsequent packet processing can invoke VLAN header handling against the team device, which is not a VLAN device, causing a NULL pointer dereference. The upstream fix caches Ethernet header operations during team-device setup and restores those operations, rather than VLAN header operations, when the device type changes.
