CVE-2023-52578 is a race condition in the Linux kernel bridge networking path, in br_handle_frame_finish(). The function can execute concurrently on multiple CPUs while updating shared network-device statistics without mutual exclusion, including dev->stats.tx_dropped. The issue was detected by syzbot using the Kernel Concurrency Sanitizer. The upstream fix replaces the unsafe statistics updates with SMP-safe DEV_STATS_INC() operations.
