A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's s390 architecture ptrace implementation allowed corruption of the floating point control (fpc) register in the tracing process. When the fpc register of a traced process is modified via ptrace, the new value is validated by temporarily loading it into the fpc register. If an interrupt occurs during this window and floating point or vector registers are used in the interrupt context, the current fp/vx registers are saved as if they belong to user space. Although test_fp_ctl() attempts to restore the original fpc value, this restoration is discarded, resulting in the tracer process running with the incorrect fpc value intended for the tracee.
