CVE-2023-52615 is a deadlock vulnerability in the Linux kernel hardware random-number-generator (hwrng) core. It occurs when a process reads from an hwrng character device into a userspace buffer backed by a mapping of that same hwrng device. Resolving the destination-buffer page fault re-enters the hwrng read path recursively, causing a deadlock. The upstream correction uses a stack buffer for the data passed to copy_to_user, preventing page-fault-driven recursive reads.
