CVE-2023-52623 is an improper RCU synchronization issue in the Linux kernel SUNRPC multipath transport code. The rpc_xprt_switch_has_addr() function traverses an RCU-protected transport list, but two of its callers can invoke it without holding an RCU read-side lock. This produces an RCU-list traversal outside a reader section during NFSv4 pNFS data-server connection and write activity. The upstream correction makes rpc_xprt_switch_has_addr() acquire rcu_read_lock() unconditionally; nested RCU read-side locking is supported.
