CVE-2023-52735 is an uncontrolled-recursion vulnerability in the Linux kernel BPF sockmap subsystem. The sock_map_close, sock_map_destroy, and sock_map_unhash protocol callbacks could erroneously invoke themselves, despite being designed not to recurse. Repeated self-invocation can exhaust kernel stack space. The upstream fix detects this recursive condition and exits the loop, intentionally favoring a resource leak over stack exhaustion.
