CVE-2023-52749 is a race condition in the Linux kernel SPI subsystem's handling of synchronous, non-queued transfers during system suspend and resume. A synchronous transfer can set the SPI controller's current-message state and begin processing before suspend interrupts its execution. On resume, the controller queue-start path clears that state; when the interrupted transfer resumes and finalizes, it dereferences the now-null current-message pointer. The upstream fix serializes suspension against synchronous transfers by acquiring the SPI bus mutex and setting and checking a suspend flag.
