CVE-2023-52775 is a race and timeout-handling flaw in the Linux kernel's net/smc subsystem affecting SMC-R connection setup and fallback processing. When an LLC confirm fails, the client and server can time out and send SMC DECLINE messages at overlapping times. A DECLINE message can subsequently be read by an already-established fallback TCP connection as application payload, causing SMC protocol control data to be delivered to the application and corrupting the application data stream. The upstream fix doubles the client-side timeout relative to the server timeout so that DECLINE messages do not cross or collide during confirm-link timeout handling.
