CVE-2023-52845 is an improper null-termination flaw in the Linux kernel Transparent Inter-Process Communication (TIPC) Generic Netlink handling of bearer-related names, including link and bearer names. The affected attribute policy accepted these values as NLA_STRING rather than NLA_NUL_STRING. A crafted Netlink attribute lacking a terminating NUL byte could subsequently reach string-processing routines such as strstr() in TIPC link-statistics handling. These routines may read beyond the supplied attribute buffer, resulting in an uninitialized-value access and buffer overread. The fix requires NUL-terminated strings for bearer-related Netlink attributes.
