CVE-2023-52878 is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the Linux kernel Controller Area Network (CAN) subsystem. The CAN device helper can_put_echo_skb() did not safely handle an echo-SKB index outside the bounds of the can_priv::echo_skb array. An invalid index could therefore access memory beyond the allocated echo-SKB array and crash the kernel. The fix validates the index, emits a warning for an invalid access, and returns an error rather than performing the access.
