CVE-2023-53185 is an improper input-validation flaw in the Linux kernel ath9k Wi-Fi driver’s handling of HTC service-connection responses. A malicious USB device can supply a response designating ENDPOINT0 as its target endpoint. ENDPOINT0 is reserved for the HTC_CTRL_RSVD_SVC control service, but the vulnerable driver accepted the response and allowed its attributes to be overwritten for another service. The upstream fix rejects service-connection responses that target ENDPOINT0.
