CVE-2023-53322 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel qla2xxx SCSI driver’s remote-port termination handling. The terminate_rport_io() cleanup path can return before all outstanding I/O operations have returned to the upper SCSI layer. The upper layer can then release resources that remain referenced by the qla2xxx driver or its hardware. The condition is particularly relevant to FCP-2 devices following a cable pull, where I/O can remain in hardware until final cleanup is initiated after dev_loss_tmo expires. The fix waits for outstanding I/O to return before associated resources are freed.
