CVE-2023-53393 is an improper validation flaw in the Linux kernel RDMA mlx5 driver. When mlx5_ib_get_hw_stats() retrieves device-level statistics, it uses port_num=0 to denote the device and selects device counters accordingly, but previously forwarded the zero value into lower-level routines. Those routines assume a physical port number of at least 1. The invalid port value can lead to an invalid access and a supervisor-mode kernel page fault, producing a kernel oops. The correction normalizes the port number to 1 for device-status retrieval.
