A flaw in the Linux kernel ext4 mount error-handling path can leave quota resources allocated when an ext4 mount fails after quotas have been enabled. Specifically, if ext4_mark_recovery_complete() returns an error, the mount cleanup path did not invoke ext4_quota_off_umount() to release the enabled quota state. The resulting unreleased allocations are reported by kmemleak. The fix adds a failed-mount cleanup path that disables quotas before completing mount failure handling.
