CVE-2024-0520 affects MLflow prior to 2.9.0 in the mlflow.data.http_dataset_source.py module when loading a dataset from an HTTP source. The vulnerable logic derives a local filename from attacker-influenced data in the HTTP Content-Disposition header or from the URL path and uses that value to construct the destination file path without proper sanitization or restriction to an intended directory. Because special path elements and absolute paths are not neutralized, an attacker can supply values such as ../../tmp/poc.txt or /tmp/poc.txt to achieve relative or absolute path traversal. This enables arbitrary file write outside the expected storage location.
