CVE-2024-12172 is a vulnerability in the WP Courses LMS WordPress plugin (versions up to and including 3.2.21) where the wpc_update_user_meta_option() function lacks proper capability checks. This allows any authenticated user with Subscriber-level access or higher to update arbitrary user metadata, including sensitive fields such as wp_capabilities. By setting wp_capabilities to 0 for an administrator, an attacker can effectively lock the administrator out of the site.
