CVE-2024-12886 is an Out-Of-Memory (OOM) vulnerability in the ollama server version 0.3.14. The vulnerability is present in the makeRequestWithRetry and getAuthorizationToken functions, which use io.ReadAll to read HTTP response bodies. If a malicious API server returns a gzip bomb as an HTTP response, the ollama server will attempt to decompress and read the entire payload into memory, leading to excessive memory consumption and a server crash. This results in a Denial of Service (DoS) condition.
