CVE-2024-22365 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Linux PAM before version 1.6.0, affecting handling associated with the pam_namespace module's protect_dir mechanism. The vulnerable code opens a protect_dir path using openat() without the O_DIRECTORY flag. An attacker can substitute or create a FIFO at the relevant location with mkfifo; opening that FIFO blocks the PAM login-processing path rather than rejecting it as a non-directory.
