CVE-2024-26593 is a state-initialization flaw in the Linux kernel i2c-i801 driver affecting SMBus block process call transactions. Intel i801 controller documentation requires the block-buffer index to be reset before writing the outbound block and reset again before reading the returned block. The driver omitted the second reset, leaving the index at its post-write position and causing reads to retrieve an incorrect portion of the controller block buffer.
