CVE-2024-26601 is a flaw in the Linux kernel ext4 filesystem's fast-commit replay handling. During replay, ext4 can attempt to free blocks that are already marked free. If block freeing fails in this condition, the buddy allocator bitmap can remain corrupted because its metadata is not regenerated. The fix restores regeneration of the ext4 buddy metadata after a failed block-freeing operation during fast-commit replay.
