CVE-2024-26603 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Linux kernel x86 FPU signal-frame restore path. The affected code uses the userspace-controlled xstate_size field in the XSAVE software-reserved area to determine how much of the FPU buffer to fault in before invoking XRSTOR. An attacker can construct a sigreturn frame whose xstate_size is smaller than the state size implied by its xfeatures bits, then make a portion of the state required by XRSTOR inaccessible. The preliminary accessibility check can succeed while XRSTOR faults on the unmapped portion, causing the kernel to retry indefinitely. The fix faults in the maximum buffer size XRSTOR may access, using the kernel-derived fpstate user_size rather than the userspace-supplied size.
