CVE-2024-26659 is a lifecycle-management flaw in the Linux kernel xHCI USB host-controller driver’s handling of isochronous-transfer Babble and Buffer Overrun events. For a multi-TRB transfer descriptor (TD), the driver incorrectly assumed that an early error event meant the xHCI controller had released ownership of the entire TD and freed it. The xHCI specification does not permit that assumption: remaining TRBs may still be owned by the controller, and a final completion event may subsequently be generated because the last TRB has an IOC flag. Premature release allows remaining TRBs to be freed or overwritten by newly queued TDs, and later completion events can no longer be associated with the original TD. The fix applies the existing isochronous Transaction Error processing logic to Babble and Buffer Overrun events and corrects transfer-length reporting for Babble errors.
