CVE-2024-26717 is a NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel HID I2C Device Tree/OF driver, i2c-hid-of. Following the split of the I2C HID implementation into ACPI and OF variants, the OF driver did not initialize its client pointer. If device power-up fails, the error path dereferences that uninitialized pointer, causing a kernel NULL-pointer dereference.
