CVE-2024-26759 is a race condition in Linux kernel memory-management swap-in handling when swapcache is skipped for SWP_SYNCHRONOUS_IO. Concurrent faults on the same swap entry can independently read that entry into separate pages. If one thread installs its page, frees the swap entry, and the entry is subsequently reused before the other thread completes, the latter thread's pte_same() check can incorrectly succeed because the PTE value is unchanged. This ABA condition permits installation of a stale page and can overwrite newer data. On ZRAM-backed swap, freeing the entry can also discard its contents before a delayed concurrent read completes. The upstream fix uses swapcache_prepare() to pin the swap entry with the cache flag, serializing swap-in for the entry and releasing the pin after the PTE lock is released.
