CVE-2024-26772 is a race condition in the Linux kernel ext4 multiblock allocator. In ext4_mb_find_by_goal(), validation of whether a block group's block bitmap was marked corrupt was not protected by the group lock. Concurrent state changes could therefore permit the allocator to select blocks from a block group whose bitmap was corrupt. The fix moves the corrupted-bitmap check under the group lock, ensuring allocation decisions are synchronized with the group's corruption state.
