CVE-2024-26773 is a time-of-check to time-of-use race in the Linux kernel ext4 multiblock allocator. In ext4_mb_try_best_found(), ext4 could validate that a block group's bitmap was not corrupted during group selection, release the group lock, and subsequently reuse the selected extent after the bitmap had been marked corrupted. The corrected logic rechecks whether the group block bitmap is corrupted before using the selected extent and allocating blocks from that group.
