CVE-2024-26801 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel Bluetooth HCI error-recovery path. When processing an HCI_EV_HARDWARE_ERROR event, hci_error_reset can continue to use an hci_dev object after a GPIO-based controller reset mechanism frees that object when the underlying Bluetooth controller is unresponsive. The fix retains a reference to hci_dev for the duration of hardware-error event processing, preventing its premature release.
