CVE-2024-26878 is a race condition in the Linux kernel quota subsystem that can lead to a NULL pointer dereference. A concurrent quota-disable path can clear an inode's quota pointer after a routine such as dquot_free_inode has tested that pointer but before it dereferences the associated quota structure while acquiring its lock. The upstream fix retains the quota object in a temporary pointer, preventing the time-of-check/time-of-use race on the inode quota-pointer array.
