CVE-2024-26935 is a Linux kernel SCSI core regression in procfs host-directory cleanup. A SCSI host directory is created during SCSI host allocation. Following an earlier change that moved cleanup to host removal, the cleanup in the host device release path was removed to avoid a duplicate removal. Consequently, error paths that allocate a SCSI host but never add it—such as a USB mass-storage probe failure—do not remove the associated procfs directory. Subsequent attempts to create the directory trigger duplicate-registration warnings and leave the SCSI host procfs structure allocated. The fix restores cleanup during device release only when the host remains in the created state, covering allocated-but-never-added hosts without duplicating cleanup for normally added and removed hosts.
