CVE-2024-26991 is an out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel KVM x86 MMU memory-attribute handling path. During the KVM_SET_MEMORY_ATTRIBUTES ioctl, KVM evaluates whether huge pages have consistent attributes and updates per-memslot lpage_info metadata. The hugepage_has_attrs() optimization assumes the lpage_info array for the next smaller huge-page level has entries corresponding to every entry at the current level. This assumption is invalid for unaligned tail regions: the lower-level array may cover a smaller region than the current-level array. Indexing it using the current-level range can therefore read beyond its vmalloc allocation. The condition is observable with KASAN as a vmalloc out-of-bounds read.
