CVE-2024-26993 is a reference-count leak in the Linux kernel sysfs subsystem. sysfs_break_active_protection() acquires a kobject reference before attempting to obtain a kernfs node. When the node lookup fails, the node pointer is null and the normal companion cleanup routine cannot safely be invoked; the acquired kobject reference was consequently not released. The upstream fix explicitly releases the kobject reference on this error path.
