CVE-2024-27013 is an uncontrolled resource-consumption vulnerability in the Linux kernel TUN network-device driver. When the TUN receive path processes illegal packets, tun_do_read() can repeatedly emit hexadecimal packet dumps. A vhost worker may invoke this path while receiving packets. Under sustained malformed or otherwise illegal packet input, excessive console logging consumes substantial CPU time, particularly when a console is enabled, and can trigger soft-lockup detection. The fix rate-limits logging through the kernel net_ratelimit mechanism.
