CVE-2024-28253 is a Spring Expression Language (SpEL) injection vulnerability in OpenMetadata policy processing. Attacker-controlled policy expressions reach CompiledRule::validateExpression through PolicyRepository.prepare and EntityRepository.prepareInternal, where they are evaluated before authorizer.authorize() performs authorization. This ordering permits expression evaluation prior to access control enforcement and can result in remote code execution. The issue affects OpenMetadata releases prior to 1.3.1.
