CVE-2024-29041 is an open redirect vulnerability in Express.js redirect handling. When an application passes a user-controlled URL to res.location(), Express applies encodeurl before emitting the value in the HTTP Location header. Malformed URL input can consequently be interpreted differently from the value assessed by common redirect allowlist implementations, enabling a bypass of an otherwise correctly implemented allowlist. res.redirect() is also affected because it invokes res.location(). The issue affects Express.js versions prior to 4.19.0 and all 5.0 alpha and beta prereleases; the complete fix is available in Express.js 4.19.2 and 5.0.0-beta.3.
