CVE-2024-33602 is a memory-corruption vulnerability in the GNU C Library (glibc) Name Service Cache Daemon (nscd) netgroup cache. Introduced in glibc 2.15 when nscd netgroup caching was added, the cache incorrectly assumes that strings returned by a Name Service Switch (NSS) callback reside within the caller-provided buffer. An NSS implementation that returns strings stored outside that buffer can cause nscd to handle invalid string locations and corrupt memory. The flaw is present only in the nscd binary.
