CVE-2024-35807 is a logic error in the Linux kernel ext4 online-resize path. When resize_inode is disabled and an online resize crosses a meta block-group boundary, ext4_flex_group_add can add block groups before the first meta block group. The backup block-group-descriptor update logic incorrectly treats those groups as using the meta_bg layout, causing a backup descriptor to be written to a physical block that may contain file data. The upstream fix tests whether each added group already belongs to a meta block group before selecting the descriptor-layout handling.
