CVE-2024-35807 is an ext4 logic flaw in the Linux kernel's online-resize handling. When ext4 is resized online with the resize_inode feature disabled, ext4_flex_group_add can add block groups before they belong to the first metadata block group. The backup block-group descriptor update logic incorrectly handles those groups as using the meta_bg layout, causing metadata to be written at an incorrect physical block location. The misplaced write can overwrite file data and corrupt the filesystem.
