CVE-2024-35814 is an alignment-calculation flaw in the Linux kernel Software I/O Translation Lookaside Buffer (SWIOTLB) allocator. A regression in SWIOTLB slot-alignment handling can leave the allocation search index unaligned after a preceding buffer allocation. Subsequent coherent DMA allocations may then be returned at a non-page-aligned slot address. swiotlb_alloc() assumes page alignment when converting the allocation to a struct page, causing the first 2 KiB slot of a 4 KiB page to be allocated more than once. The corrected implementation evaluates allocation alignment independently from device-specific alignment requirements, uses the greater requirement as the slot-search stride, and preserves page alignment for allocations larger than a page. The fix also prevents excessive alignment requirements from causing SWIOTLB allocation failures.
