CVE-2024-35870 is a use-after-free flaw in the Linux kernel CIFS/SMB client function smb2_reconnect_server(). A reconnect worker can access an SMB session while another thread is concurrently tearing down that session through __cifs_put_smb_ses(). The race arises when a server connection exists without a session, or when another thread changes ses_status during teardown. This can result in access to freed session-associated state, including IPC-related structures. The fix unconditionally sets the session status to SES_EXITING during teardown and prevents other threads from assigning a new status until teardown completes.
