CVE-2024-35875 is an insufficient-entropy vulnerability in the Linux kernel x86 confidential-computing (CoCo) boot path. CoCo guests operate under a threat model in which the virtual-machine host may maliciously observe or manipulate most guest entropy inputs. Before the fix, the kernel did not require successful initialization of the random-number generator from the processor RDRAND instruction. If RDRAND was absent or malfunctioned during boot, the RNG could continue using inputs that are not trustworthy in the CoCo threat model. The fix requires collecting 256 bits of RDRAND output during CoCo boot and panics when this seeding fails.
