CVE-2024-35897 is a use-after-free condition in the Linux kernel netfilter nf_tables subsystem. Hook unregistration for a basechain is deferred until transaction commit; updates caused by changing a table's dormant flag are likewise deferred. When a transaction combines deletion of a basechain with a table-flag update, the deferred table-flag processing can leave the deleted basechain's hook registered with the networking core. Subsequent packet processing through that stale hook can access the deleted basechain.
